The idea of cold air intake is to put the air intake further away from the engine, and allow cooler air—which are denser and have more oxygen—to enter the engine. And more oxygen means your engine can produce more power. The MR2 Spyder air intake design is generally very well thought-out in this aspect.

However, there's always room for improvement. AEM Induction's cold air intake uses their Dryflow synthetic air filter, the larger size reduces airflow restrictions to allow more air in. Furthermore, the intake tubing is longer and this relocates the air filter to the driver-side wheel-well to reduce air temperature.

AEM doesn't specify how much horsepower or torque you will gain. However, this is still an excellent option if you're looking for an MR2 Spyder intake upgrade. The air filter can last up to 100,000 miles, and it's washable. Certainly better than the OEM's limited lifespan. And its silver finish will surely make you smile whenever you open your MR2's engine hood. Direct fit for 2000 to 2005 MR2 Spyder.

In our opinion, one of the biggest improvements from a cold air intake is the change in sound.  The induction noise of a high-revving 4 cylinder is hard to beat!  This sound is also available on demand, as when you are cruising or have the throttle completely closed, the noise is significantly reduced. So, if you have easily annoyed neighbors, you can control when you want to hear your engine, on demand.
